History: The City of Laurel Senior Citizens Advisory Committee was created and established by Resolution No. 15-89, passed by the Mayor and City Council on November 27, 1989. The Committee is made up of seven members, one (1) Council Member and six (6) citizen members, aged 55 or older (one member must be the President of the Laurel Friendship Club) appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council for two year terms. The Chair of the Committee is elected annually by members of the Committee.
Authority: The Committee is charged with advising the Mayor and City Council on matters relating to senior citizens, reviewing policies and procedures and cooperating with other agencies, civic groups and other appropriate organizations in the advancement of senior citizen matters.
