Mayor Craig Moe's Statement Regarding Snow Emergency Operations

Feb 10

First, I want to thank all of our residents for their cooperation and patience during this very critical time in Maryland’s and Laurel’s History. Our Department of Public Works is now in their sixth day of around the clock operations. As they continue to clear the Snow Emergency routes, secondary streets and courts, we ask for your continued assistance by remaining off the roads.

I have several important notices for City of Laurel residents:

The City Snow Emergency and City State of Emergency will remain in effect until further notice.

City offices will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, February 11, 2010.

Our Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is open and being staffed 24 hours a day. If you need assistance or information, you can call the EOC at 301-725-5300.

Trash and Recycling pickup is being postponed until Tuesday, February 16, 2010. I had hoped to have trash picked up this week, but the County Landfill is closed and current snow conditions prevent our trash trucks from accessing many City streets. Here is the trash schedule for next week:

Monday’s Trash and Recycling will be collected on Tuesday, February 16, 2010.
Tuesday’s Trash and Recycling will be collected on Wednesday, February 17, 2010.
On Thursday, February 18, 2010, we will be back on the regular schedule.
There will be no Special Pickups until further notice.

I would like residents to be aware that if power is lost during the storm and you are in need of a warming station, please call 301-725-5300.

All Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, February 11, 2010 and all Parks and Recreation activities are cancelled until further notice.

If during the storm you need Emergency Service, Fire and EMS can be reached by calling 911 and the Laurel Police can be reached by calling 301-725-53000 for Emergency needs. For more information on Alerts, please visit our City website at www.laurel.md.us

 Thank you,

 Mayor Craig A. Moe
