Central Records

The primary responsibility of the Central Records Division is to secure, store and maintain custody of the Department's records. Central Records personnel are responsible for data entry of all reports, review of red light violations and Uniform Crime Reporting to the State of Maryland and federal government. During 2008, Central Records personnel entered 8,830 reports and citations, and reviewed 2,695 red light violations.



The Central Records Division is overseen by Jennifer Jeffries who has been with the Laurel Police Department for 26 years. Starting in March 1984, Ms. Jeffries began her career as a clerk typist, and was promoted to Administrative Specialist. Ms. Jeffries is currently an Administrative Assistant II and resposible for the oversight of the Central Records Division.

Reports


Reports fees are $10.00 payable with cash, money order, Visa or Mastercard.


If your insurance company is requesting a copy of a police report, the cost is $10.00. Insurance company and business checks will be accepted. Please enclose a self-addressed stamped envelope. Mail your request, along with the police report number, to:

 Vehicle Releases


There is a $40.00 fee for vehicle releases payable with cash, money order, Visa or Mastercard,during business hours (Monday, Wednesday-Friday 9AM - 5PM, Tuesday 8AM-7PM). After normal business hours, only money orders can be accepted. In order to obtain a vehicle release, the registered owner of the vehicle must appear in person at the Laurel Police Department with a valid photo identification card and proof of ownership of the vehicle.


Valid Proof of Identification Include:



  • Photo Identification Card issued by a State Motor Vehicle Administration

  • Passport

  • Military Identification Card

  • Birth Certificate

Valid Proof of Vehicle Ownership Include:



  • Title

  • Registration Card

  • Bill of Sale

Red Light Tickets


Red light tickets are managed by American Traffic Solutions on behalf of the City of Laurel.


Pay the fine.



  • Pay Online. Logon to www.violationinfo.com by entering your Notice number and PIN number shown in the red box on the front right of your Notice. Click the Pay button. There is a convenience fee of $4.00 that will be assessed at the time of payment.

  • Pay by Mail. Mail your check or money order (payable to the City of Laurel) in the enclosed envelope along with the coupon printed at the bottom of the Citation. Do not mail cash. The mailing address is:'

  • Pay by Credit Card. Call toll free 1-866-790-4111 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There is a convenience fee of $4.00 that will be assessed at the time of payment.

Appeal the Citation.


To contest the citation, you may request to appear in District Court of Maryland for Prince George's County by returning the completed form on the back of the Citation. Submit the completed form at least 5 days prior to the "Due Date" shown on the front of the Citation. If you appear in Court, the maximum amount you can be charged is a $100.00 fine and court costs.


You will be notified by mail of the court date. if you do not receive a notification of your court date within 30 days, call the City of Laurel Red Light Camera Enforcement Customer Service Office toll free at 1-866-790-4111, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.


If you lost your ticket.

MVA Flag.

If you have received an MVA Flag for a Red Light Camera ticket, pay your ticket and request a VR-119 from the vendor.

Parking Tickets


Parking violations must be paid at the Laurel Police Department, 811 Fifth Street, Laurel, MD either in person or by mail on or before the payment due date.


If the fine is not paid within 30 days from date of issue, fine will increase thereafter.


MAIL: DO NOT SEND CASH. Mail MONEY ORDER only.


IN-PERSON: you may pay your parking ticket at the Laurel Police Department with cash, money order, Visa or Mastercard.


MVA Flag


Once you pay your ticket, you can obtain your VR-119 from the Central Records Division.

MVA Flag Releases


If you are notified about a “flag” on your vehicle record by the Motor Vehicle Administration, indicating an unpaid parking ticket, red light ticket or some other problem with the Laurel Police Department, you first must clear up the problem before you can renew your vehicle's registration.


To obtain your VR-119 (Flag Release) for a:


Automated Speed Ticket, please contact the Automated Speed Ticket Vendor to pay your ticket. You must then request a VR-119 from the Automated Speed Ticket vendor.


Red Light Tickets, please pay the Red Light Ticket Vendor. Once you pay your ticket, you must then request a VR-119 from the Red Light Ticket vendor.


Parking Tickets, you may pay your parking ticket at the Laurel Police Department with cash, money order, Visa or Mastercard. Once you pay your ticket, you can obtain your VR-119 from the Central Records Division.
