Census & Ward Boundary Review Committee

The City of Laurel Ad Hoc Census and Ward Boundary Review Committee held its first meeting May 29, 2012. Members G. Rick Wilson, Ward 1 Representative, Rhonda Whitley, Ward 2 Representative and Kimberly Elliott, At Large Representative, met to organize and begin their work to review the City of Laurel ward boundaries from which City Councilmembers are elected. City Charter Article 600, Section 620(b) requires that City ward boundaries assure reasonably equal representation. 

The Ad Hoc Census and Ward Boundary Committee has been tasked with reviewing the 2010 Census numbers for the City of Laurel and reviewing the City of Laurel Ward Boundaries to determine if adjustment is needed; and if so, to recommend new ward boundaries. The Committee will seek public input regarding the City’s Ward Boundaries on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Laurel Municipal Center, 8103 Sandy Spring Road. The Committee will include public input in its recommendation to the Mayor.

The Ad Hoc Census and Ward Boundary Committee looks forward to this public hearing and encourages the Citizens of Laurel to attend and participate.
